American white oak has light-coloured sapwood and a light to dark brown heartwood, which is very similar in appearance and colour to European oak.

Whitewood gives the finest quality lumber. It comes from the tallest hardwood tree, which can grow to 160 feet or more. The creamy white colour of whitewood is what makes it special. The wood has a straight grain and it is also soft. This makes it a great option for various cuts. Whitewood lumber can be easily shaped because of its soft texture.

African Mahogany is pink when freshly cut, darkening to a reddish-brown colour with pale golden-brown zones on exposure. The sapwood is yellowish-brown in colour and is up to 2 in. (51 mm) in width, and it is not always distinctly demarcated from the heartwood. The grain is sometimes straight, but generally interlocked, giving a characteristic stripe figure in quarter sawn stock. The texture is medium to coarse, but even. It has no distinct taste or odour. The planed surface is lustrous. Growth rings are fairly distinct to the naked eye due to the presence of terminal parenchyma.

Yellow to orangish brown, the colour tends to darken with age. Movingui wood frequently exhibits figured grain patterns such as mottle or ripple. Sapwood colour distinct from heartwood colour. Movingui is frequently referred to as Satinwood. Textured fine grain, often interlocked, sometimes wavy; lustrous; some logs produce a decorative figure; may contain up to 1.3% silica; contains a yellow extractive that may stain fabrics if moistened. Its yellow colour can be quite vibrant, while it can also have a highly pronounced mottle figure, making it a favourite for veneering and applications used for accents.
